What I have learned about my hair so far is that my hair NEEDS a lot of moisture. I tried a few products and have found that Shea Moisture makes my hair feel really dry and brittle like, Carol’s Daughter is ok, I thought it was great until I tried Cantu’s products. Cantu is WONDERFUL! Originally, the thought of not washing my hair and simply co-washing seemed nasty and unclean. Now, I LOVE to co-wash, especially with Cantu. I have also learned if I do not wash my hair at least once a week my hair will fall out VERY BADLY. When I say bad I mean it looks like I am standing on a hair rug in the shower. It is everywhere, on the walls, on the shower curtain, on my face, on my shoulders and other body parts, it is a mess. That is when I tried to co-wash and I washed my hair every 2-3 days and bam very very little shedding. I also use the leave in conditioner. I did not know that product is not supposed to remain white on your hair after application. This too let me know that I have low porosity hair. Side note: my hair is extremely thick, so the extreme shedding is not noticeable what-so-ever.

My hair has been relaxed since the end of sixth grade. Since then, it’s always been struggling to graze my collarbones. But Knopman notes that such studies don't prove cause and effect, so it's not clear if mentally stimulating activities protect against dementia or whether people with healthier brains are drawn to those activities in the first place.

Weaves and braided hairstyles are often cited to be great protective hairstyles, but they are also require a high level of manipulation (tugging, pulling, twisting etc) which can cause breakage. This is probably what you are seeing when you take out your weave/braids, along with hair that has naturally shedded. You may wish to consider low manipulation hairstyles which utilise only the hair on your head such as twist outs, bantu knots etc.

The World Health Organization recommended that people combine a reduction of processed foods high in saturated fats, sugar and salt[11] and caloric content of the diet with an increase in physical activity.[12]

I haven’t gone natural yet, but I’m planning too very soon. Right now I’m wearing box braids. Pretty much my whole life I have been doing braids relaxers and weaves. But now I want to go natural and I’m not sure exactly where to start. Should I start by trimming split ends, brushing it all through, moisturizing my scalp, cutting off all my relaxed ends?Between my weaves and braided hairstyles, when my hair is natural for a couple of days, Iv’e noticed that it breaks off a lot becomes flat (after I wash it) and is super dry and incredibly tangled. Should I brush my hair because it’s so tangley? Or should I not because it will tear it out? I’m so lost! HELP!

Carolyn, agree completely, a plant-based Mediterranean style diet is the best diet for health. That includes some whole grains, ideally in intact form (such as farro, quinoa, and brown rice), some healthy proteins and fats (legumes, nuts, seeds, fish, chicken), and mostly fruits and veggies. Refined grains, like white flour and sugar, and everything made from them (bread, pastas, backed goods, cereals, et cetera) are the real culprit.
Some studies have assessed the effects of special foods on weight maintenance. For example, weight regain did not occur in individuals who had consumed green tea and caffeine mixture with an adequate or high-protein diet. Only, in the group with an adequate protein intake, a higher hunger score and lower satiety was seen.[40] Based on a recent meta-analysis, green tea has no significant effect on the weight loss maintenance.[41] It may have some consequences in habitual low caffeine consumers.[42]
Choose your splurges. Sometimes you’ll be faced with indulgent foods in the moment, say, at a family event or  social get-together. My daughter went natural last year, I was so impressed with her courage and strength at 19, where in NYC long hair (relaxed hair) seems to be a big thing, she gradually cut her long hair ( length was to her breast), and now its so beautiful, that I decided to do so and I really love it. I am so curious about my new texture, co-washing and various natural oils to use, I wish I had done this years ago. Prestonia has noticed that women who are transitioning their hair shift from cutting it every six weeks to just about never once they go natural. Wrong move. “Have your hair trimmed or cut seasonally,” she advises. “That’s a minimum of four times a year.” You might be trying to grow it out (the struggle has never been more real) but trims help you avoid split or frayed ends, making your locks look healthier overall.
Also, I forgot to mention stay away from products with Petroleum Jelly, Mineral Oil (liquefied petroleum jelly), paraffin, silicones and sulfates to the best of your ability. A lot of products purporting to be good for our hair list one of the above as (among) the first ingredients in the product, but honestly it is a cheap bulking ingredient that offers no nutritional value to your hair whatsoever. They make for excellent barriers to moisture once applied on your hair/scalp but it’s also tantamount to wrapping yourself in cling film, not allowing your pores to breathe and to be hydrated by the water in the atmosphere.

I was 12 years old the first time I relaxed my hair. At the time, I was going to a majority Black school and I was one of the few girls who still had natural hair. Most days I came to class with my hair thrown into a haphazard ponytail or my 'little girl' pigtails and — you guessed it — I hated it. I was young, impressionable, and it was just one more thing that made me uncool, one more thing that made me different.
