Hello! I’m African and I transitioned to natural hair (chopped, grew, relaxed once then grew it natural) two years ago. My hair grows really fast, is curly and my scalp is sensitive and itchy – it’s been so since my teenage years. When i braid or weave my hair, it itches a lot more especially just after & in the first week, so I can’t carry it for long as it gets rough quickly. The same for fixing weaves. As a result I try to avoid doing those but I end up just tying my hair in a bun/ponytail and the curly short strands are flying around which is kind of boring and not suited to the work environment. Plus! My hair is grey, I have grey strands all over intermingled with (more) black (this is hereditary). I haven’t really taken care of my hair well, ‘cos it’s resilient () but I want to change that now – I’d really like to know what can take away the itching and generally how to take care of my hair

I can’t even start by describing my hair texture. I’m a 21 year old white girl, leaving in Seychelles. I was born with beautiful curly blonde hair (they called me Goldilocks back in my youth days). I was still so young, my mum was the one who always combed by hair to go to school in the mornings, by the time i was 10, my hair was really long and she got fed up with detangling. She decided straight hair was more manageable so she had my beautiful hair relaxed without even thinking about the concequences. We live next to the beach and here in Seychelles the weather is very hot and sunny, so you can imagine what that contributed to my hair. My hair was ruined. After a while she had it cut really short, but it never went back to the way it was. So she kept taking me to hairdressers to have it relaxed. After a while everyone kept criticising my hair, especially my family who doesn’t understand the struggle of it cause they have straight silky hair. Everyone always has something to say. I stoppped relaxing my hair about five years ago or so, and a hairdresser suggested i try out a relaxer perm. It was okay when it was done but after two weeks or so my hair would simply go back to the way it was. And then they suggested i do Keratin. The last time i’ve been to the hairdresser was in December 2015. I was so fustrated with my hair and poeple who didn’t understand that my hair is just simply damaged and dry and that no matter what i do in it, it will not go back to the way it was .EVER! Hello, I am transitioning and I really do not want to do a big chop, I have had chemicals in my hair for well over half of my life, while I know and understand this will not be an easy journey, is there anything you could give me advice wise that will shed some light while on this journey. I wear my hair in cornrows everyday with a wig on top. I will spray Carol’s Daughter hair milk refresher spray on my hair then apply any moisturizing creme I may have to give it moisture. Last thought, I have a very difficult time trusting people in my hair. When I was on the creme crack it was hard. I had a lot of HORRIBLE experiences. I just decided to go natural and I’ll be doing the big chop in two weeks time. I’ve transitioned for four months while doing some protective styles. The one I have on now is a twist out with my relaxed-nartural hair. But the centre of my scalp has been itching me for years and I find myself pulling at it to get some relief. I get braids & leave them in for 2 or 3 months. & I oil my scalp 2 twice a Week. When I take my hair out I usually get blowouts at a Dominican salon & have them cut off some of my ends. Hi! I have recently started to think about going natural again as I feel relaxing it all the time and getting appointments is long. I’m also going to university soon so I will be away from home. Now, at this very moment, my hair is about half my pinky finger or a lil more and I have then plat, pus my mom put some rubber bands in m hair (against the hairdressers wishes), oh, and my new hairdresser also died my hair black, because my hair is multi colored (black,brown & goldish red ), she also told me that all I needed to use was Wild Growth hair oil and keep plating my hair…and i think this artical is helpful not only to my hair but my skin…thank u

It has been shown that a greater resting metabolic rate (RMR) at baseline, increased dietary restraint, and low frequency of dieting,[8] are associated with weight regain. A meta-analysis in 2001, revealed that using a very low energy diet (VLED) for weight loss or losing more than 20 kg are two predictors of weight maintenance,[9] however, one study that assessed the method of weight loss, declared that patients on VLED gain more weight after the end of the weight loss period, but a self-directed approach was more successful in this regard.[10] Low intake of takeaway and fast foods,[11] reduction of food consumption, adherence to a low-fat diet,[12] and lower sugar-sweetened beverage consumption[13] are some of the behaviors of maintaining the weight loss. Adopting these behaviors as a habit needs supportive strategies by virtue of phone or email.[14]

Damage to the hair must be trimmed away or grown out. For example, there is not a permanent cure for split-ends. There are some conditioners that can essentially patch split-ends and make them less visible, but over a period of time those split-ends will reappear. The only way to permanently get rid of your split-ends is to trim them away. You should absolutely never burn away your split-ends. 

Also, I forgot to mention stay away from products with Petroleum Jelly, Mineral Oil (liquefied petroleum jelly), paraffin, silicones and sulfates to the best of your ability. A lot of products purporting to be good for our hair list one of the above as (among) the first ingredients in the product, but honestly it is a cheap bulking ingredient that offers no nutritional value to your hair whatsoever. They make for excellent barriers to moisture once applied on your hair/scalp but it’s also tantamount to wrapping yourself in cling film, not allowing your pores to breathe and to be hydrated by the water in the atmosphere.

I have shared my favorite all natural deep conditioner on the blog, and it’s really great for giving some love to your scalp. It’s not a daily conditioner, though. For daily conditioning I stick with a simple apple cider vinegar rinse (ACV). I use a cleansing bottle (like this) and put 1 – 2 TBS of apple cider vinegar and then fill the rest with filtered water. Since I have really short hair I don’t need a lot. I’ll just squirt some on my scalp, massage it in, and then let it sit for 20 – 30 seconds before rinsing out. It makes my hair feel really good!


What I have learned about my hair so far is that my hair NEEDS a lot of moisture. I tried a few products and have found that Shea Moisture makes my hair feel really dry and brittle like, Carol’s Daughter is ok, I thought it was great until I tried Cantu’s products. Cantu is WONDERFUL! Originally, the thought of not washing my hair and simply co-washing seemed nasty and unclean. Now, I LOVE to co-wash, especially with Cantu. I have also learned if I do not wash my hair at least once a week my hair will fall out VERY BADLY. When I say bad I mean it looks like I am standing on a hair rug in the shower. It is everywhere, on the walls, on the shower curtain, on my face, on my shoulders and other body parts, it is a mess. That is when I tried to co-wash and I washed my hair every 2-3 days and bam very very little shedding. I also use the leave in conditioner. I did not know that product is not supposed to remain white on your hair after application. This too let me know that I have low porosity hair. Side note: my hair is extremely thick, so the extreme shedding is not noticeable what-so-ever.

The truth is, cosmetic store and salon products usually contain 30 or more synthetic ingredients – even those claiming to be natural and organic. Many of these synthetic ingredients strip the natural oils from your hair and scalp leaving your hair seriously dry. It’s also common for these products to leave behind a heavy-wax build up guaranteeing a bad hair day!
Due to some rather unfortunate salon perms I got in the past, my edges are weak. If I pull my hair back for more than a few days I notice thinning. Most of the protective styles that I see involve having the hair pulled back/up. This is great for protecting ends, but is there a protective style to protect edges? Right now I have my hair in twists and loose.
Hair breakage is the most common cause of hair loss. Tight hairstyles (ex. tight ponytails and braids) can break off the hair and damage the hair follicle. If your hair constantly breaks you will need to identify exactly what’s causing the breakage and eliminate the culprit to prevent further breakage. The most common causes of breakage are heat, harsh chemicals, tight hairstyles and rough treatment.
Observational studies have shown that people who engage in mentally stimulating activities may be less likely to develop dementia. But Knopman notes that such studies don't prove cause and effect, so it's not clear if mentally stimulating activities protect against dementia or whether people with healthier brains are drawn to those activities in the first place.
Each head of hair is different, so there is really no correct answer. However, you can tell when you’re washing your hair too much if it starts to get dull, which means it’s time to scale back on the shampooing. By over-washing your hair, you can wash away your hair’s natural moisture which helps your hair look healthy. If you’re not washing your hair often enough, you can have product build-up which could negatively impact your hair.

There is no right or wrong way to go natural; the important thing is that you are going natural. If you decide to transition to natural hair it’s important to know that the line of demarcation is where your natural hair and relaxed hair intersect. You’ll definitely notice a difference in the texture of your natural hair and your relaxed hair. Relaxers weaken your hair, leaving it dull and damaged over time. So, the difference should be fairly obvious.

hi I have really thick hair and its about 4 or 5inches right now but the only thing is ,is that i have been experiencing thinning towards the back of my head and i dont know why .And it grows at a significantly slower rate than the rest ofmy hair.ive had to wear a cap for the past couple weeks because im afraid it might all break off or fall out. if you have any advice for me please email me back
