Each head of hair is different, so there is really no correct answer. However, you can tell when you’re washing your hair too much if it starts to get dull, which means it’s time to scale back on the shampooing. By over-washing your hair, you can wash away your hair’s natural moisture which helps your hair look healthy. If you’re not washing your hair often enough, you can have product build-up which could negatively impact your hair.

In the five years that I've been natural, I've realized that my relaxed hair experience — while not as bad as some horror stories you may have heard — was a bit absurd. Then there’s the issue of what could be done with it if this actually happens. Transitioning would make styling easier, no doubt, but I’m fairly sold on the big chop. I just wanted to say that I love this article and that I am new to natural hair transition. I was always told that my hair was so beautiful and long and to never cut it but I was the only one who didn’t like my long hair. I’ve been natural for a couple of years now. I get my hair flat ironed now because its easier to maintain but I’ve noticed that my scalp gets severly flaky & dry. I have been a natural for about 3 years now and my hair looks like I just big chopped it. It did grow a little bit but the growth for 3 years is really disappointing. Due to some rather unfortunate salon perms I got in the past, my edges are weak. If I pull my hair back for more than a few days I notice thinning. Most of the protective styles that I see involve having the hair pulled back/up. This is great for protecting ends, but is there a protective style to protect edges? Right now I have my hair in twists and loose.
Get enough sleep daily; the CDC recommends the following by age group (naps inclusive); 12-18 hours from birth to 2 months, 14-15 hours from 3-11 months of age, 12-18 hours for 1-3 years of age, 11-13 hours for 3-5 years of age, 10-11 hours for 5-10 years of age, eight and a half to nine and a half hours for 10-17 years of age and those 18 and above need seven to nine hours of sleep. Elderly people need about seven to nine hours but do not sleep as deeply and may awaken at night or wake early, so naps (like kids need) allow them to accumulate the total of seven to nine hours of sleep.
Hello, I am transitioning and I really do not want to do a big chop, I have had chemicals in my hair for well over half of my life, while I know and understand this will not be an easy journey, is there anything you could give me advice wise that will shed some light while on this journey. I have seen people natural and its pretty, but most times they tell me that they have big chopped, I have a really nice length of hair and I do clip my ends often, but is there anything else that you could recommend that will help me along the way. My hair is a good mix of wiry and spongy if that makes sense, my mom has natural hair that is a little thick and curly and my dad has really fine curly hair and I guess I am the one in between with the spongy wiry combination. To identify studies regarding weight maintenance, with an emphasis on dietary interventions, a complete search of articles was carried out by using PubMed and SCOPUS. The studies were restricted to those in English. The key words included ‘overweight’, ‘obesity’, ‘weight maintenance’, ‘weight regain’, and ‘diet therapy’. Articles from 1974 to 2013 were included. We found 75 articles. We excluded studies published only as abstracts and those involving behavioral therapy or exercise per se. Finally we evaluated 26 studies.

The only problem I have with that is my hair is short and I don’t like updo hair styles while my hair is so short. I don’t think they fit my face. I been wearing a faux hawk and a curly fro. Other factors – There can be other factors that I can’t necessarily account for. It could be a combination of detox, water, ingredients, and method…. but unless I can talk to you face to face, see you mix your ingredients together, check your water, and watch you shower… I won’t necessarily know why something isn’t working for you. (And let’s  be honest, that would be really awkward.)  Ultimately, if you are serious about natural hair care you have to be willing to experiment and keep trying until you find your sweet spot.

Hello! I’m African and I transitioned to natural hair (chopped, grew, relaxed once then grew it natural) two years ago. My hair grows really fast, is curly and my scalp is sensitive and itchy – it’s been so since my teenage years. When i braid or weave my hair, it itches a lot more especially just after & in the first week, so I can’t carry it for long as it gets rough quickly. The same for fixing weaves. As a result I try to avoid doing those but I end up just tying my hair in a bun/ponytail and the curly short strands are flying around which is kind of boring and not suited to the work environment. Plus! My hair is grey, I have grey strands all over intermingled with (more) black (this is hereditary). I haven’t really taken care of my hair well, ‘cos it’s resilient () but I want to change that now – I’d really like to know what can take away the itching and generally how to take care of my hair

My hair has been relaxed since the end of sixth grade. Since then, it’s always been struggling to graze my collarbones. I’ve started my journey! May 28th was the day I did my BC. I didn’t realize my hair was so damaged. I felt really sad and said now is the time. I come from long hair that over the years got shorter and shorter and seemed to would not grow in certain places. It may grow an inch or two and stop while the rest of my hair would grow like weeds. I’ve had short cuts before, but always with a relaxer. This took a lot of courage for me to do. I’ve kept my hair under a wig since…until TODAY!! I am proud of my short fro and once I added some eye makeup, earrings and lipstick, I realized I really like it! It felt freeing. Larsen and his colleagues showed that the rate of maintenance of weight loss were higher among participants who were assigned to the low-protein diets and to the high-GI diets compared to the high-protein diets and low-GI diets. Significant weight gain was seen in a low protein-high GI group, but in a high protein — low GI diet weight reduction after weight loss continued. The great ability of a twa is that the style within itself is a protective style. The hairs are tightly together packed down and the hair is not brushing the shoulders. So in essence, a TWA is a protective style within itself. The idea is to be sure to protect your hair at night and keep it moisturized and supple and using protein when you need to. You didn’t mention protein. How are you incorporating protein into your regimen.

Ah, the ultimate Catch-22: If your hair is greasy, experts will tell you to stop washing it daily. But (depending on your texture, of course) if you don’t wash it daily, it gets…greasy. So what’s a girl to do? Dry shampoo. This one is an all-natural and surprisingly simple blend of four starches — arrowroot and rice powder, kaolin clay, and baking soda — plus two essential oils (rose geranium and palmarosaa) for a light, blossomy scent. Repeated dieting can actually lower metabolism and thus make your body retain more of what you put into it. Increasing exercise while not giving your body more food to compensate can also increase body fat storage. Dieting also increases heart disease risk, when compared to simply gaining a little weight. If you really need to lose weight, the most effective way is to increase exercise and cutting only a little food, while concentrating on fruits, veggies, and high fiber foods.
Choose your splurges. Sometimes you’ll be faced with indulgent foods in the moment, say, at a family event or  social get-together. Strive to differentiate between your everyday foods and your indulgences, and then determine which splurges will be most satisfying. Couples may want to talk about this decision at dinner and choose either a dessert or an alcoholic beverage, but not both.
